Overview of the Food Service Assistant Role at Fedics
As a Food Service Assistant, your core responsibility is to assist in the preparation and serving of meals and beverages to customers. You ensure great customer service at all times. You also maintain that kitchen and service areas are clean and tidy, help with waste removal, and wash up. This foundational role supports the entire catering operation and directly affects how customers perceive the food service experience.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Meal preparation & service: You prepare high-quality meals, fast foods, and sandwiches for branded outlets with speed, care, and consistency. You guarantee that every dish meets Fedics’ standards of quality and presentation.
- Cleanliness & hygiene: You maintain high hygiene and cleaning standards in all service and kitchen areas. You help with dishwashing, removing waste, and ensuring that health and safety protocols are always observed.
- Stock & loss prevention: You assist with stock-takes at the unit, help monitor inventory levels, and keep loss prevention guidelines in mind. Preventing wastage and pilferage is part of your daily responsibilities.
- Customer relations & service excellence: You build and maintain excellent customer relationships. You ensure warm, sincere contact with all customers and consistently provide exceptional customer service in compliance with professional performance standards.
- Flexibility & additional tasks: You may carry out special duties or work outside the normal daily routine, as long as these tasks fall within the overall scope of the position.
Required Skills & Competencies
To succeed as a Food Service Assistant, you’ll need:

- A Matric (Grade 12) qualification is required to meet the baseline eligibility.
- Experience in food service or catering is highly desirable.
